BRIEF ON IRAN Representative Office of The National Council of Resistance of Iran No. 165, Wednesday, May 10, 1995 3421 M Street NW #1032, Washington, DC 20007 Iranian Resistance's Parliament Calls On All Countries To Join Trade Embargo On Mullahs, From a statement issued by the Secretariat of NCRI, May 9 "In the conclusion of its five-day session, the National Council of Resistance issued a statement today. In the statement signed by all 235 of its members, the National Council of Resistance evaluated the US President's decree for imposing a trade embargo on the Khomeini regime as a courageous act which counters state-sponsored terrorism and serves the cause of peace and co-existence in the region. The NCR called on other countries of the world to impose similar sanctions against the mullahs ruling Iran to desiccate the source of state-sponsored terrorism and religious despotism. "The National Council of Resistance is unanimously convinced that the propaganda aimed at feigning the trade boycott of the mullahs as putting economic pressure on the Iranian nation, is the conspiracy of the Khomeini regime and its international supporters and serves to prolong the rule of the mullahs' religious terrorist dictatorship in Iran. All petro-dollars are either plundered by the mullahs or spent on the suppression of the Iranian people's just movement and export of terrorism abroad, the statement added. Therefore, as the Iranian Resistance has proposed over the years, the international community must ratify this embargo at the UN Security Council as a binding decision and observe that it is carefully implemented. "The statement stressed that the US State Department's last year report against the Iranian people's Resistance as well as the efforts of the advocates of placating the mullahs' regime to bring them out of international isolation have utterly failed and all illusions about the future continuity of the regime have dissipated...." Mullahs' Disavowal Of Infidels, The Associated Press, May 9 "MOUNT ARAFAT, Saudi Arabia - At the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, a preacher urged the 2 million Muslims gathered on this sacred summit today to spread their faith in a peaceful manner. "But hours after the predawn prayers by white- robed worshipers, Iranian pilgrims reportedly held a forbidden rally, chanting 'Death to the United States! Death to Israel!'... "Law enforcement authorities were out in force and appeared to have been successful in marginalizing the Iranian rally by forcing it to be held outside the holy city of Mecca...." "Report: Iran Trained Suicide Bombers Who Killed 21 Israelis," The Associated Press, May 9 "LOS ANGELES - Iranian officials trained two suicide bombers who killed 21 Israelis this year as part of a campaign to sabotage the Middle East peace process, the Los Angeles Times reported today. "Iran also made payments to the families of both men involved in the Jan. 22 attacks, and Islamic militants in Lebanon and Sudan also have been trained with the support of Iranian funds, the newspaper said. It did not describe the nationality of the suicide bombers. "The allegations, made by U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, were the first statements directly linking Iran to specific attacks aimed at thwarting the 1993 self-rule agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. "The officials told the Times that since last year, Iran has helped arm Islamic militants in Algeria, where extremists have engaged in a campaign of anti- government unrest. Lebanon's Hezbollah also receives more than $100 million annually from Iran, the officials said.... "Iranian Students Hold Anti-U.S. Protests," The United Press International, May 9 "ATHENS - Iran's state radio says (Tuesday) students in Tehran demonstrated near the former U.S. embassy to protest what it called 'recent U.S. policies against Iran.'
