The Iraq-based Mujahedeen Khalq, to which the three belonged, said the gunmen were Iranian agents.... The attack came a day after Iranian Revolutionary Guards fired rockets into the Mujahedeen's main military base in eastern Iraq.... The attackers raked one car with AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, killing three occupants, all long-time Mujahedeen activists, [the Mujahedeen spokesman, Feridoun Soleimani] said. Soleimani said the Mujahedeen activists in the other car chased the gunmen down the freeway for 12 miles in a running gunbattle, with the attackers hurling hand grenades at their pursuers. One of the assailants was wounded and captured. The other two, also wounded, escaped, Soleimani said.... Three Iranian Exiles Killed in Baghdad, United Press International, July 10 ATHENS - ... The Mojahedin Khalq Organization said the attackers, believed to be "the Khomeini regime's mercenaries," were later wounded as opposition group members in another vehicles fought a running battle with them during a chase along a Baghdad expressway.... The early morning attack in Baghdad occurred when the Iranian government agents used an RPG-18 anti-tank weapon to open fire on a vehicle carrying three members of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization.... The vehicle used by the attackers was found to have several number plates, installed one on top of the other.... The attack was the second in as many days on the Iranian exiles in Iraq.... The Mojahedin Khalq exiles, bitter opponents of the ruling clerics in Iran, ... have vowed to topple the clerics in Iran, either by force or via other means. Iraq Summons Iranian Envoy over Attack on Exiles, Reuters, July 10 BAGHDAD - Three members of the Iranian opposition group Mujahideen Khalq were shot dead in Baghdad on Monday and Iraq summoned Iran's Charge D'Affaires to protest over the second incident in two days.... Al-Thawra, the official newspaper of the Baath party, said Iraq protested over another attack on Sunday when Iran's revolutionary guards fired rockets at the group's main camp, Al-Ashraf.... "Iraq strongly denounces and condemns this aggressive act and holds the Iranian government fully responsible for it," Thawra said, quoting a spokesman for the Iraqi foreign ministry. "It (Iraq) reserves full right of legitimate defense in the face of the Iranian aggression with appropriate means and at a suitable time," Thawra said.... Gunmen Kill Mojahedin, Voice of America, July 10 A spokesman for the Mujahadeen Khalq told reporters in Baghdad that gunmen killed three members of the group in an ambush and high-speed car chase through the Iraqi capital.... He blames it on Iranian agents. Amnesty international, the London-based human rights group, often has criticized Iran for trying to eliminate opponents both at home and abroad. Iraq's foreign ministry called in Iran's diplomat in Baghdad to complain about Sunday's cross-border attack on the Iranian camp at Ashraf.... Three Mojahedin Members Killed in Baghdad, From a statement issued by the office of the People's Mojahedin of Iran - Baghdad, July 10 ... Upon learning of the terrorist crime of the mullahs' terrorist dictatorship in the Iraqi capital, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, leader of the Iranian Resistance, emphasized the Resistance's legitimate right to self defense and to respond to the terrorist attacks of Khomeini's heirs.... Mr. Rajavi announced: In the face of the Iranian people's growing Resistance and the remarkable domestic and international support for the Resistance's President- elect, the criminal mullahs have reached a point, where they cannot preserve their rule, even one day without suppression of the people inside and export of terrorism outside.... The People's Mojahedin of Iran believe the Khomeini regime's terrorist diplomats in Baghdad masterminded and organized the terrorist operation today in Baghdad. The Mojahedin strongly call on the Iraqi government and officials to immediately follow up on this crime, prosecute and punish the terrorists, and close down the Khomeini regime's embassy in Baghdad.
