France Rebuffs Iran Call for Algeria Mediation, Reuters,
September 21

        PARIS - France on Thursday politely rebuffed a
suggestion by Iran's foreign minister that it should stage
peace talks between Algeria's military rulers and
opposition parties.
        Foreign Minister Herve de Charette ... told the
French Diplomatic Press Association Paris had no intention
of getting involved in Algeria's internal affairs....
        A former French counter-espionage chief meanwhile
linked Iranian authorities to a current wave of bomb
attacks in France which authorities suspect are by
Algerian Islamic fundamentalists.
        Yves Bonnet, ex-head of the DST security service ...
said Iran trained Arab youths recruited in France to
become Islamic commandos and gave financial and
material backing to Algerian fundamentalist
revolutionaries.
        Asked by the weekly VSD if he believed Iran was
behind the bomb attacks in France, he replied: "It
is...undeniable that Iran is today the only country that
actively supports attacks in the Middle East, whether in
Palestine, in Egypt, in Algeria or finally in France."
        "As far as our country is concerned, at the very least
one has to admit that when they hit Algeria, they are
aiming at France," he said....
Kuwait Police Arrest Eight Iranian Infiltrators, Reuters,
September 21

        KUWAIT - Kuwaiti police are questioning eight
Iranians who were arrested after entering Kuwait illegally
by sea, Al-Anbaa newspaper said on Thursday.
        It did not say when the eight were arrested and
police were not available for comment. Al-Anbaa quoted a
security source as saying Kuwait was also searching for
other infiltrators but it did not mention their
nationalities....


Iran Denounces Arab Statement on Disputed Islands,
Associated Press, September 20

        NICOSIA - Iran denounced a Gulf Cooperation
Council statement questioning Tehran's claim over three
disputed islands in the Gulf....
        The council's statement condemned Iran for ''its
non-response to repeated and sincere calls by the United
Arab Emirates to reach a peaceful settlement'' on the
small but strategic islands of Abu Musa and Greater and
Lesser Tunbs in the southern Persian Gulf....


World Leaders Hesitant to Visit Iran Under Mullahs, Iran
Zamin, September 21

        Japan's prime minister canceled his previously
schedueled trip to Iran.  This is the third time in the past
few weeks that foreign officials call off their trips.
Russian president and German foreign minister had
previously canceled their trips to Iran.


Israeli Judge Rules on Iranian, Associated Press,
September 21

        EILAT, Israel - An Iranian flight attendant accused
of hijacking a passenger plane to Israel told a judge
Thursday he was "mentally suffering a lot" and repeated
his request for political asylum.
        Reza Jabari, 29, appeared in Eilat Magistrate's Court,
where Judge Shlomo Bar Eli ruled he could be held for up
to 15 days while authorities investigated charges of air
piracy, hijacking, weapons possession and infiltration.
        Bar Eli said Jabari had admitted hijacking the Kish
Air Boeing 707 at gunpoint on Tuesday "because he
wanted to run away from Iran and because of the attitude
of the regime against the people."...
        Jabari said he "never had any intention of harming
anyone."...
