Christopher: Mullahs Deeply Involved in Israel Bombings,

        WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Warren
Christopher accused Iran of playing a major supporting
role for the Islamic fundamentalist group Hamas that has
claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attacks that killed
57 people in Israel in the last nine days.
        Christopher will meet ambassadors from Middle
Eastern, European and other countries on Wednesday to
launch a campaign to isolate Iran and support Israel in the
struggle against extremists, a senior aide said....
        As to Iran's role in the four suicide bombings in nine
days ... Christopher said: "We think Iran is deeply involved
in this at various levels -- encouragement, funding,
perhaps some direction."
        "The trouble we've had with Iran over the last
several years is their export of terrorism, their
encouragement of terrorism, their providing support for
terrorism comes to a head at a point like this. It is a good
lesson -- ought to be -- for the world as to why we've been
so strongly opposed to Iran and ... to those who would give
Iran the kind of financial support they can divert into
terrorist activities of this kind. They (Iran) are deeply
involved," he added....
        ...Christopher said: "We hope that one of the side
effects of these terrible events in Israel will be to bring
home to all of our trading partners, the dangers of
encouraging by trade or preferential credit agreements
countries having the terrorist inclinations that Iran does."...


U.S. To Push To Isolate Iran, Dow Jones, March 5

        WASHINGTON - The U.S. has already dispatched
bomb detection equipment to both Israeli and Palestinian
authorities to bolster them in their fight against terrorists
and will push to isolate Iran further, according to White
House Spokesman Mike McCurry.
        The effort to isolate Iran, which the Clinton
administration says clearly supports radical groups such as
Hamas that have claimed responsibility for a series of
bombings in Israel, probably won't include an oil embargo
because of a lack of international support, McCurry said....
        The Clinton administration will advance the
argument with its European allies that trade with Iran
hasn't led to more moderate behavior from that country
and that trade with Iran should be curtailed.
        [The Associated Press reported that: The United
States also wants to further isolate Iran, accused by
Washington of being a sponsor of terrorism. "There's no
such thing as moderated behavior when it comes to Iran,"
White House press secretary Mike McCurry said.]


Iranian Regime Starts War Games Near Pakistan Border,
Reuters, March 5

        TEHRAN - Iranian air and ground forces on Tuesday
started military exercises in a southeastern area near the
border to Pakistan, Iran's official news agency IRNA said.
        In the five-day war-games named "Zafar" (Victory),
armored units backed by airforce and heavy artillery will
practice various operations, including repelling chemical
attacks, in a 200 square km (77 square miles) area near
the city of Khash, about 80 km (50 miles) from the border,
the agency said.


Mullahs Seek Financial Influence in Bosnia, Associated
Press, March 5

        SARAJEVO - Iran will set up an office in Sarajevo to
manage economic cooperation with Bosnia, a newspaper
reported Tuesday....
        The announcement came after Bosnian Prime
Minister Hasan Muratovic ended his two-day visit to Iran
on Monday. His delegation met with Iranian President
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and other top officials.
        The two countries decided they would study the
establishment of a correspondence between the two
countries' banking systems, as well as establishment of a
joint Iranian-Bosnian bank, the Oslobodjenje newspaper
said....
