BRIEF ON IRAN No. 382 Tuesday, April 2, 1996 Representative Office of The National Council of Resistance of Iran 3421 M Street NW #1032 Washington, DC 20007 Iranian Resistance Con-demns Arrest of Iranian Asylum-seekers in Turkey, from statement by NCR, March 31 The National Council of Resistance of Iran strongly condemns the arrest and beating up of Iranian asylum seekers in Turkey. The Iranian Resistance is concerned about the plight of the 64 detained Iranian asylum seekers and calls on the international human rights organizations and the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees to secure their release and respond to the righteous requests of the Iranian refugees who have fled the brutal suppression and oppressive rule of the mullahs' regime. In light of the blatant violations of human rights in Iran and the terrorist operations of the mullahs' regime against the Iranian nationals in Turkey, it merits that rather than arresting and beating the defenseless Iranian asylum-seekers, the Turkish government arrest and prosecute the mullahs' terrorists and close down the regime's embassy and consulates in that country who according to the Turkish officials and media played a direct role in nearly 40 terrorist operations against Turkish and Iranian nationals in that country. Senior Mullah Threatens Germany, Iran Zamin News Agency, March 30 A senior clergy tacitly warned Germany that if it did not dropped prosecution of intelligence minister, Ali Fallahian, it would incur severe losses. Emami Kashani, a member of Guardian Council, said in Friday sermon that European countries, particularly Germany, must avoid pursuing the U.S. policy against Iran. He added any treatment by the European countries against Tehran's government would be perceived against Islamic world and all Islamic countries.... Emami Kashani in expressing his views warned the Arab countries against cooperation with U.S. to avoid what he called "wretchedness and lowliness." EU Troika to Take Message on "Terrorism" to Iran, Reuters, April 1 ROME - A European Union delegation will visit Tehran on Tuesday to tell the Iranian government that the future of its controversial dialogue with Europe depends on a firm condemnation of "terrorism," diplomats said on Monday. They said the troika of senior officials from Italy, Spain and Ireland would meet Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati.... Responding to that pressure, EU foreign ministers drew up a common platform at a meeting in Palermo, Sicily, on March 10 calling on Iran "to condemn once and for all acts of terrorism, whoever by and for whatever end." "If the critical dialogue (with Iran) is worth continuing, it must show some progress and convergence of views on such fundamental issues as the Middle East peace process and terrorism," the policy statement said. "That is the message the troika will be taking to Tehran," said a senior diplomat from Italy, which holds the EU's rotating presidency.... Impatience inside the EU at Iran's stance was reflected last month in strong statements from foreign ministers Klaus Kinkel of Germany and Susanna Agnelli of Italy. Germany last month confirmed it had issued a warrant for the arrest of Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Fallahiyan on suspicion of masterminding the killing of three Kurdish opposition leaders in Berlin in 1992. British author Salman Rushdie has meanwhile urged EU countries to use what he said was Iran's current weakness to step up pressure on Tehran to drop a death edict against him.... Mullahs Supply More Weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, Radio Israel, March 31 Today informed source in Jerusalem said the Syrian government has allowed Iran's Islamic republic to once again transfer equipment and weapons to Lebanon and deliver it to Hezbollah via Syria. The sources added the Syrian authorities agreed to this transfer of weaponry by Tehran during a visit, two months ago, by the first deputy of Rafsanjani, Hassan Habibi, from Damascus....
