BRIEF ON IRAN No. 412 Tuesday, May 14, 1996 Representative Office of The National Council of Resistance of Iran 3421 M Street NW #1032 Washington, DC 20007 Terrorist Conspiracy Against Mrs. Maryam Rajavi's Residence in France, from statement by NCR, May 13 The mullahs' Intelligence Ministry had a plan to attack the residence of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President- elect, in a Paris suburb, using rockets and mortars, reports from within Iran say. The cargo of arms and ammunition discovered on the ship, called Kolahdooz, at a Belgian port last March 14, was to be used in this terrorist scheme. The shipment on Kolahdooz contained a high-caliber mortar launcher with delayed-action mortar shells, packed in food containers and ostensibly destined for Munich.... A similar terrorist attack was to be launched simultaneously in Baghdad against Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance. It was, however, foiled before being actually carried out. One of the terrorists was arrested and another killed while preparing for the operation.... Extradited Iranian's Life in Danger in Mullahs' Prison, Iran Zamin News Agency, May 13 Mehrdad Kavoussi, an Iranian refugee whom Turkey extradited to the Khomeini regime on April 25, is presently imprisoned in an Intelligence Ministry detention center in Tehran. Mr. Kavoussi is being viciously tortured and interrogated... Nonetheless, in reaction to international pressure the regime's agents have called on his family, denying his presence in Iran, so that the mullahs' interrogators would enjoy a freer rein in torturing him.... The Iranian Resistance urges the international authorities to help save Mehrdad Kavoussi's life.... Mullahs Murder a Woman Author, Poet, Iran Zamin News Agency, May 13 Saturday, May 11, Ms. Ghazaleh Alizadeh, Iranian author and poet, was killed in northern Iran. Simultaneous with the death, in suspicious circumstances, of Ms. Alizadeh, revolutionary guards attacked a book exhibition in Tehran and seized her books. Due to her opposition to the Khomeini regime, Ms. Alizadeh had been imprisoned and tortured. Upon being released from jail, she was under continuous pressure and harassment by the regime's Intelligence Ministry. In an statement, on May 12, the NCR called upon international human rights organizations to condemn and investigate the mullahs' crimes, including the death of Ms. Ghazaleh Alizadeh. Punitive Law for Women, Radio Israel, May 12 The Islamic parliament for the first time after coming to power, 17 years ago, passed the details of a law regarding punishment, imprisonment and penalties for the Iranian women and girls who do not follow the complete dress code [Hejab].... The daily Salam wrote in a report that the vice squads have obtained formal permit to establish a base in Chitgar Park [where Hezbollah forces attacked women last week]. The vice forces in their first communiqué warned women to avoid cycling, Volleyball, badminton and other sports in public. In this communiqué they have emphasized that these forces will immediately punish the violators in the trials they will hold on the site.... Mayor and Three Women Colleagues Indicted, Agence France Presse, May 12 According to Judiciary officials, the mayor of one of Tehran's districts and his 12 colleagues, including three women, appeared before a court for "propaganda abuses, illegitimate relations and violating election laws." Asghar Nasiri, the mayor of Tehran's 12th district and candidate for the mullahs' parliament from city of Saveh, is accused of violating election regulations... According to daily Kayhan, the ladies... are accused of having illegitimate relations with the mayor, using cassettes, video tapes, satellite dish and participating in "corrupt night parties and dancing"...
