According to the investigations conducted by Franco Uneta, Rome's Deputy Attorney General, three people will be tried in abstentia for planning and carrying out the assassination of Mohammad Hossein Naghdi. He said one of the three is a citizen of Iran, holding diplomatic passport, and cannot be arrested.... Three years ago, on the way from his home in the center of Rome to the NCR's office, Naghdi was shot three times by two assassins... He died a few hours later in one of the Rome's largest hospitals.... Franco Uneta says that Naghdi was assassinated because of his activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and according to the investigations, the danger of assassination of Iranian dissidents by Islamic terrorists in Italy still exists. No Need for Mediation If Tehran Stops Intervention in Bahrain, Agence France Presse, July 1 On Monday, Bahrain asked Iran, again, to stop interfering in its internal affairs.... Bahraini Minister of Information told Agence France Presse that: "Iran interferes in our internal affairs. There will be no need whatsoever for a mediator if Iran stops its intervention into our affairs and reassesses its policy." [News agencies report that Syria is trying to mediate between Bahrain and Iran. Bahrain last month accused Iran of supporting a Shi'ite Moslem-led plot to overthrow the government and install an Iranian style Islamic state loyal to Tehran.] Mullahs' Intervention in Lebanon, Iran Zamin News Agency, July 2 Since two weeks ago, the Lebanese embassy in Tehran does not issue a visit for Iranians who intend to travel to Lebanon. The decision is subsequent to the accusations by Lebanese President Elias Heravi of Iran's intervention in the internal affairs of his country in May. Tehran's Agent Threatens Arafat, Radio Israel, July 1 The representative of the fundamentalist Palestinian Islamic Jihad group in Tehran threatened the leaders of the self rule Palestinian government of renewed intifada.... Referring to the recent meeting between Arafat and Israeli prime minister's advisor, Abu Jihad threatened the Palestinian government that if ignoring the Palestinian interests is continued, a new intifada will be resumed which will have unpredictable consequences. Activities by Resistance's Forces in 62 Iranian Cities to Honor June 20th, Iran Zamin News Agency, July 2 The Mojahedin's command headquarters inside Iran announced the successful completion of activities honoring the anniversary of the June 20th, the start of the Iranian people's resistance against the mullahs' religious, terrorist dictatorship, the day of martyrs and political prisoners and the anniversary of the founding of the National Liberation Army of Iran. The series of protest and publicity activities by the Resistance were undertaken on this occasion in 62 cities. Among other things, the resistance's forces organized sporadic demonstrations, protest gatherings and activities, fomenting popular protests, as well as strikes and protests by workers, students and academics. They also posted hundreds of large placards carrying portraits of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, in busy areas of the cities. They also distributed hundreds of thousands of placards and brochures in different cities and regions of the country in support of the NCR and the National Liberation Army of Iran. Iran Bans Head of Critical Weekly for Five Years, Reuters, July 2 TEHRAN — An Iranian court has banned the head of a popular hardline Islamic weekly from running the publication for five years, a newspaper said on Tuesday. The daily Salam said the court also ordered Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, director of the Payam-e Daneshjoo, to pay 10 million rials ($3,300) in fines for "publishing lies and causing public confusion."... Authorities banned the weekly in May three months after dropping an earlier ban when it published articles accusing relatives of President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani of corruption and charging Iran's largest state-affiliated economic conglomerate with mismanagement....
