The new law which includes execution, imprisonment and lashing as punishment for political and ordinary offenses, will go into effect on Tuesday. Portions of the law have been implemented since the Revolution on a "trial" basis.... The new law... mandates the death sentence for any attempt against the regime's security or against the lives of the regime's leaders. It also allows the application of maximum penalty for those who insult Khomeini ... and his successor Khamenei.... [In another report, Agence France Presse said that the Iranian resistance considers "the implementation of the new law as a prelude to 'greater slaughter of the people.'" [AFP reported Mr. Rajavi, President of the NCR, "called on human rights organizations to take binding decisions against the Iranian regime."] Saudi Bombers Had Support of International Terrorism, United Press International, July 9 WASHINGTON — The latest evidence gathered in the probe into the June 25 truck bombing of a U.S. military facility in Saudi Arabia suggests those responsible for the attack had "extensive support" from an international terrorist organization, Defense Secretary William Perry said Tuesday. Perry, testifying before a Senate panel on the attack which left 19 U.S. Air Force personnel dead and hundreds injured, said it is evident the bombers "were well-organized, had sophisticated training, did extensive practice and had access to military-quality explosives and detonating devices."... Binford] Peay, whose area of command includes Saudi Arabia, said several terrorist groups perceived as threats are operating in the Middle East, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and "Al-Jihad." Floods Kill Six, Destroy Houses, in Northwest Iran, Reuters, July 8 TEHRAN — Flash floods have killed six villagers and destroyed dozens of houses in northwestern Iran, a newspaper said on Monday. The daily Kayhan said rescuers evacuated residents of several villages in Iran's East Azerbaijan province where about 200 heads of cattle were also killed on Friday night by the floods which were caused by torrential rains.
