It said that the ministry should put aside the policy of non-intervention in internal affairs of others... and become pragmatic. Jomhouri Islami wrote that the crisis in Afghanistan was directly related to Iran and "why shouldn't we recognize our right [in this regard]?"... The editorial concludes by saying that "the harms towards our borders come from this undue flattery. We must put aside this policy in other cases as well as in Afghanistan"... Egypt's Anti-Government Recruits to Train in Iran, Reuters, October 21 CAIRO - Egyptian authorities said on Monday they had arrested 56 members of a secret Shi'ite organization allegedly trying to recruit followers to promote Iranian ideas in the country.... The majority of Egypt's Moslems are Sunni. The Cairo government has regarded Iran with suspicion ever since its 1979 Islamic revolution and has often accused Iran of trying to export its brand of extremist Islam throughout the region. The [Interior] ministry said the Shi'ite organization had recruited people to send to Iran for training. "The group also tried to infiltrate political parties and take advantage of them to spread Iranian goals and extremist plans," the ministry said. Eight of the detained Shi'ites had been to Iran and had contacts with Iranian and Arab Shi'ites, the ministry said.... Iran Starts Another War Game in Gulf, Associated Press, October 21 TEHRAN - Iran's navy is conducting four days of war games in the Persian Gulf, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Monday. During the maneuvers, which began Sunday, units will carry out mock assault operations on coastal areas and conduct rescue and diving operations, the agency said.... Iran, which conducts several similar exercises each year, announced last month that it will take delivery of a Russian-made submarine in early 1997. It also said it was building its own destroyer and conducting research on missiles.... More Quotas for Admission of Government Agents into Universities, Tehran Radio, October 20 Today, the Council of Guardians ratified a plan and five legislations which were adopted by the Islamic Majlis [Parliament]. In this session the plan for amending the current law which facilitates the admission of besiji crusaders [the regime's para-military force] to universities... was reviewed. The plan was determined to be in accordance with the religious ethics and the constitution... [It should be noted that according to this amendment, 40% of the capacity of higher education institutions belongs to besiji forces and the Revolutionary Guards. At the same time, each year more than one million eligible students are denied higher education.] Women, Main Victims of Clerical Regime, Iran Zamin News Agency, October 22 In an interview with the Italian national television, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of Iranian Resistance emphasized that: "Women are the main victims of Khomeini [regime] and his successors. And for the very same reason, they will have the utmost effect in overthrow of this regime." Mrs. Rajavi added: "If the European countries, including Italy, end their support of Iran, economically in particular, Iranian people and especially women will topple the regime expeditiously."
