Iranians To Rally For Decisive Iran Policy At Denver Summit, Iran Zamin News Agency, June 19

Simultaneous with the Summit of the Eight, more than 7,000 Iranians from across the United States have planned to stage a rally, on June 20, in Denver.

This rally which is organized in support of the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, is to call for severing diplomatic and trade ties with the ruling mullahs in Iran.

According to a statement by the National Council of Resistance of Iran: "The rally, the biggest of its kind by Iranians in the U.S. in recent years… coincides with the Day of Martyrs and Political Prisoners, and with the anniversary of June 20, 1981, a turning point in the democratic resistance against the clerical regime."

"The rally is also the anniversary of the formation of the National Liberation Army of Iran," the military wing of the Iranian Resistance.

"Simultaneously with the Denver rally, tens of thousands of Iranians in Germany and Sweden will hold similar gatherings," the statement said.

 

U.S. Senate to Link Russia Foreign Aid to Iran Nuclear, Dow Jones News, June 18 

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., chairman of the Senate panel that controls foreign aid, said Wednesday his committee will vote on a bill that links U.S. aid to Russia to the condition that Moscow end all nuclear cooperation with Iran.

The Senate Appropriations Committee's Foreign Operations Subcommittee is scheduled to vote late Wednesday on its fiscal 1998 foreign aid package….

The senator said he's been concerned with reports that Russia is supplying nuclear weapons to Iran.

He also tried last year to tie all U.S. aid to Moscow on condition that Russia end all nuclear ties to Iran. But other senators argued successfully that such an attempt shouldn't be made right before the Russian elections last year….

 

German Deputy Criticized for Visiting Iran, Reuter, June 19 

BONN - A prominent German politician said on Thursday he acted as informal mediator during a visit to Iran to help improve ties with Bonn, which have been badly damaged by a court ruling that Tehran ordered political killings.

Juergen Moellemann, a parliamentary deputy with the Free Democrats and regarded as a maverick in Bonn, was sharply criticized by Iran's exiled resistance movement as well as deputies from other political parties in Bonn over the visit to Tehran during which he met senior government officials….

The National Council of Resistance (NCR) of Iran, which opposes the Tehran government, denounced Moellemann this week, saying his actions condoned Iran's "terrorism abroad" and "suppression at home" and flouted EU policy on Iran.

Bonn deputies from the environmentalist Greens and conservative Christian Social Union (CSU) also criticized him for his "self-appointed mission."…

 

Mullahs' Incompetence Turns Accidents into Disasters…

Automobile Accident, Agence France Presse, June 19 

Iranian media reported that, on Monday, in a deadly accident between two buses, 35 were killed and 41 injured.

The accident happened on Eshtehard-Karaj's route, 50 miles west of Tehran, and many of the injured are in sever condition…

During the last year more than 200,000 accidents occurred in Iran, while this country has only 3 million automobiles. During 1996, the automobile accidents have resulted in more than 5,000 death and 4,000 injuries.

Floods, Reuter, June 19

DUBAI - Nine people were killed in floods that also caused heavy damage to villages and farmlands in northern Iran, the official news agency IRNA said on Thursday….

"Some 20 villages...were heavily damaged as a result of floods on Wednesday, three by over 70 percent...while 2,500 hectares of farmland and 5,000 hectares of pastures were destroyed. Tens of livestocks were also killed," it added….

 

Fire, Reuter, June 19 

DUBAI - A fire in southwestern Iran has destroyed 900 hectares (2,200 acres) of pastures causing damage estimated at five billion rials ($1.7 million), the official Iranian news agency IRNA said on Thursday….
