Iranian Opposition Says Iraq Base Attacked, Reuters, September 2

BAGHDAD - The Iranian opposition Mujahideen Khalq said on Thursday Iran had attacked one of its bases inside Iraq, but reported no casualties.

It said in a statement that Iranian "terrorists" fired rockets at their Homayoun base in the suburbs of the Iraqi city of Amarah about 360 km (220 miles) south of Baghdad late on Wednesday night.

"None of the National Liberation Army was harmed in the attack," it said.

The statement said Mujahideen Khalq reserved the right to respond and asked the Iraqi government to hunt down and punish the perpetrators.

"The assault was the clerical regime's 77th military and terrorist attack against the Iranian resistance in Iraqi territory since the beginning of 1993," the statement said.

Iraq and the Mujahideen have blamed Iran for several recent attacks on the Iranian opposition in Iraq, including a car bomb explosion which killed six group members and one Iraqi. They also blamed the Islamic state for launching three long-range missiles across the border, hitting a camp used by Mujahideen.

Their office in Baghdad, ringed by a concrete wall, has survived several mortar and bomb attacks.

UN Body Denounces Execution of Minors, Weekly Iran Liberation, August 30

The UN Subcommission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights adopted two resolutions on Iran in the course of its August 2 to 27 session in Geneva.

Referring to the murders of Mohammad Mokhtari and Javad Pooyandeh as victims of political killings by the clerical regime's Intelligence Ministry, the Subcommission condemned these crimes and called for the pursuit and prosecution of their perpetrators before a civil court.

In another resolution concerning death sentences issued for minors, the Subcommission condemned this practice in a number of countries including Iran and called for abrogation of the death penalty for minors.

A number of non-governmental organizations drew the attention of human rights experts to the continuation of human rights abuses by Iran's clerical regime in their speeches to the session. The representative of France Liberte told the Subcommission: "Tehran and many other cities saw an extensive popular protest movement which shook the regime in its entirety. This demonstration was once again suppressed in cold blood. Many were killed and a large number arbitrarily arrested. Estimates are that more than 10,000 people were arrested across the country."

France Liberte expressed grave concern at the arrest and torture particularly of children and urged the Subcommission to send a fact-finding mission to Iran.
