Mujahideen, Mullahs' Forces Clash inside Iraqi Territory, Reuters, July 31

BAGHDAD - Iranian forces penetrated seven kilometers inside Iraq in Meisan province, 230 miles south of Baghdad, early on Monday to attack Mujahideen bases in the area, the group said in a statement.

"Dozens of enemy forces were killed or wounded and their weapons were seized by the Mujahideen," the statement said.

Iraq said two people were killed in a grenade explosion at a rally on Saturday in Dawaya district in the province of Dhi Qar, 236 miles southeast of Baghdad, blaming Iran for the attack.

Mujahideen bases have been the target of air and rocket attacks by Iran. Their office in Baghdad, ringed by a concrete wall, has survived mortar and bomb attacks.

Anti-Government Riot Erupts in Southern City, Agence France Presse, July 31

TEHRAN - Violent clashes broke out in the southern Iranian city of Qir early Sunday after a judge ordered the arrest of the popular owner of a herbal pharmacy for "winking" at his wife, the Bahar paper reported Monday.

The judge flew into a rage when he thought he saw the shop owner wink at his wife while he was serving them, and immediately had the man arrested and hauled in front of the court.

Only then did it became clear that the pharmacist merely suffered from a squint, the paper said.

When news of his arrest spread, local residents gathered outside the city court to demand that popular herbalist be set free immediately.

However, his release after a few hours in detention did not calm the crowd, and their anger, whipped up by reports that he had been beaten by the police, spilled over into violent clashes with security forces.

The crowd attacked the administrative building of the court house, causing material damage, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Security forces were deployed across the city to calm the people and control the situation, the official said.

Qir is situated some 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Shiraz in the southern Iranian Fars province.

Government Jamming Resistance's Satellite TV, Agence France Presse, July 30

NICOSIA - The Iranian government has set up jamming devices near the Turkish border to block satellite television broadcasts from opponents of the regime, the main Iranian armed opposition group charged Sunday.

In a statement received by AFP here, the People's Mujahedeen said the Iranian government jammed the Saturday evening broadcast of the group's television program, which first went on air July 20.

A Mujahedeen said the jamming also disrupted broadcasts by CNN, Euronews, MBC and Dutch, Japanese and Spanish channels that use the same UTELSAT satellite.

It said the decision to set up the "jamming devices" near the Bazargan border post with Turkey was made by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, chaired by Mohammad Khatami.
