The People's Fadayeen

The People's Fedayeen

After the Shah's downfall, this NCR member split from the leftist "Organization of Iranian People's Fedayeen Guerrillas" due to its vehement opposition to reliance on the Soviet Union. The original Organization was formed in 1968 in opposition to the Sh ah's dictatorship. When it later came under the influence of pro-Soviet elements, the group split, and the People's Fedayeen drafted their own platform to establish a democratic system in Iran. They applied for membership in the National Council of Resi stance in 1983 and were accepted as a member in 1985. Mehdi Saame, a petro-chemical engineer, leads the group. He was imprisoned by the Shah from 1969 to 1979.
