Clashes in Lorestan province leave seven killed and 12 wounded

Following the announcement of results for the second round of the Majlis elections in Lorestan province, western Iran, large groups of people in Iranshah township, near the city of Nahavand, staged a demonstration, earlier today, to protest the sham elections and widespread rigging.

To thwart the spread of the protest and clashes, the Pasdaran (Guards Corps) intervened and opened fire on the demonstrators, killing at least seven and wounding 12. Two of the dead are Aziz Bahrian and Seyyed Mirza Ghorbani.

Six of the wounded, Sabz-Ali Ghorbani, Ghodrat Ghorbani, Seyyed Hossein Ghorbani, Ghouch-Ali Rahimi, Seyyed Ne'mat Ghorbani and Molayar Cheragh-Ali, were transferred to a hospital in Nahavand.

The Guards also arrested scores of people, including following 10 persons: Kasr Morad Moradi, Haj Seyyed Jafar Ghorbani, Vali Morad Moradi, Mehdi Najafi, Hadi Ghorbani, Azim Ghorbani, Ahmad-Ali Fathi, Mostafa Asgari, Mohammad Morad Souri and Seyyed Mohammad Ghorbani.

Yesterday, thousands of Tabriz residents staged an antigovernment protest against the regime's pressures which resulted in the withdrawal of Mohammad-Ali Chehregani. A large number of people were wounded and 100 arrested.

In addition, during the elections, people held sporadic demonstrations to protest the election farce, in different cities, including Qa'emshahr, Babol and Ali-Abad, northern Iran, Qazvin, western Iran, Kovar, the southern Fars province, and in various part of Tehran. Scores of residents were arrested by the security forces.
