Mr. Rajavi urges EU to retract critical dialogue, back trade sanctions on mullahs

On the eve of the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance, addressed telegrams to Italy's Foreign Minister and the EU President, and other member-state foreign ministers, calling on them to retract the policy of critical dialogue and adopt a decisive approach by supporting trade sanctions and ending economic and political support for the inhuman regime ruling Iran.

The NCR President said: Years of negotiations with the clerics within the framework of placating policies, such as critical dialogue, have been futile, only emboldening them to continue and intensify domestic repression and export of terrorism and fundamentalism. Indeed, only the Khomeini regime has benefited from seven years of bargaining over the fatwa to murder Salman Rushdie. Meanwhile, the anti-Islamic and inhuman decree remains in force as Rafsanjani and Khamenei stress the need to implement it.

Mr. Rajavi added: Critical dialogue and leniency have never affected any change in the mullahs' enmity toward and hindrance of peace in the Middle East. Seeking to export fundamentalism and revive an Ottoman-like empire, Khomeini's heirs have spent billions of dollars, embarking on an elaborate program to produce chemical and biological arms. They have also purchased guided and long-range missiles and vigorously work to obtain nuclear weapons.

The NCR President reiterated: The Khomeini regime is devoid of any legitimacy and popularity at home. The Iranian people and Resistance are preparing themselves to overthrow the mullahs and establish democracy in Iran, calm, peace and friendship in the region. Support for and economic and political ties with this regime by some Western countries are the only factors prolonging the reign of the ruling religious, terrorist dictatorship.

Mr. Rajavi emphasized: The failure of the troika representatives' recent Tehran visit and the ruling mullahs' refusal to condemn terrorism reaffirmed that they are devoid of the slightest capacity to abandon the export of terrorism and fundamentalism and embrace a modern and peaceful way of life. Thus, not only do placating policies run counter to the highest interests of the Iranian people but also are against regional and global peace, stability and tranquillity. They will bring this regime's international interlocutors nothing but disgrace and loss.
