Rajavi: Khomeini Regime Steps Up Repression to Counter Escalation of Popular Uprisings

Simultaneous with the spread of social unrest, popular demonstrations and labor strikes in the cities across Iran, the mullahs' Majlis ratifies new suppressive laws.

According to a new law, adopted yesterday by the mullahs' Majlis, the formation of any opposition group of more than two people, even outside Iran, will be punished by sentences of two to 10 years of imprisonment. This is while the group is not found to be supportive of the Iranian Resistance, in which case it is "mohareb", one who wages war on God, and punishable by execution.

The new law also reacts to the extensive defections of guards and conscript soldiers and considers two to 10 years of jail for anyone encouraging them to escape.

Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, described the adoption of this suppressive law-- unprecedented in the world -- as a clear manifestation of the expansion of discontent and acts of protest to all members of the Iranian society and indicates the regime's inability in countering the increasing support for the Iranian people's just Resistance.

Mr. Rajavi added: The regime's repressive attempts, including the measure yesterday by the mullahs' Majlis, only strengthen the Iranian people and Resistance in their resolve to establish democracy in Iran. With the backing of the arisen people of Iran, the National Liberation Army will undoubtedly uproot the mullahs' religious terrorist dictatorship.

Simultaneous with the current session of the UN General Assembly and the UN 50th founding anniversary, the NCR President recalled the 35 times condemnation of the regime by the various bodies of the Untied Nations and called on the world community to impose a trade embargo on the Khomeini regime which does not enjoy any legitimacy among the people of Iran. Do not let the mullahs take advantage of commercial and diplomatic relations to suppress the Iranian people and export terrorism and fundamentalism to other countries.
