Mr. Rajavi: New penal code prelude to greater slaughter of Iranian people

According to the mullahs' media, today, Mohammad Yazdi, the Head of the Judiciary, announced the adoption of a new penal code which punishes "political and ordinary offenses" with execution, imprisonment and lashing.

The new law has approved the death sentence for "any attempt against the system's security or against the lives of the regime's leaders." It also allows the application of maximum (death) penalty on those who "insult" Khomeini and Khamenei.

Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stressed that the passage of the new penal code unequivocally testifies to the fact that this anti-human regime is incapable of reform.

He reiterated that legalizing the atrocities the mullahs have been perpetrating for the last 17 years, is a prelude to greater massacre and suppression of the Iranian people who have terrified the regime by their widespread uprisings and protests, particularly in recent months.

Simultaneous with the 15th anniversary of June 20, the day of martyrs and political prisoners, the Resistance's supporters organized protests and publicity activities in 62 different cities across the country.

Mr. Rajavi called on international human rights organizations, in particular the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, to refer the mullahs' human rights abuses to the UN Security Council to take binding decisions against this religious, terrorist dictatorship. The mullahs must not be allowed to take advantage of the world community's inaction any longer, the NCR President emphasized.
