Mr. Rajavi lauds the signing of secondary sanctions bill

Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, lauded President Clinton's signing of the bill instituting secondary sanctions against the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran. He described the courageous initiative by the United States Congress and President as a necessary step in confronting international terrorism that is directed by Tehran's rulers.

Underscoring the illegitimacy of the medieval regime, Mr. Rajavi said that the mullahs have executed 100,000 political prisoners so far. He stressed that in the past 15 years, the Iranian people and Resistance have systematically called for the imposition of an oil and arms embargo on the mullahs and that they view extensive diplomatic and economic relations with the clerics as being counter to the highest interests of the Iranian people and in the service of prolonging the reign of this anti-human regime.

Emphasizing that placating policies such as critical dialogue only embolden the regime to expand its export of fundamentalism and terrorism, the NCR President expressed hope that European and other industrialized nations would join trade sanctions against the regime and close down the mullahs' embassies which serve as havens for terrorists and are only the source of planning and providing logistical support for terrorist operations.

Mr. Rajavi noted that the export of fundamentalism and terrorism were indispensable to this religious dictatorship and that so long as this regime remained in power, terrorism would not be uprooted. He added: Although exercising decisiveness and imposing trade sanctions against the ruling clerics are quite necessary, but they are in no way sufficient. Recognizing the just Resistance of the Iranian people, that seeks to overthrow this anti-human regime and establish democracy in Iran, is an inevitable condition to dry up the roots of fundamentalism and terrorism across the world.

The NCR President said that the Iranian Resistance and its President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, represent the near unanimous majority of the Iranian people and is the sole antithesis to fundamentalism. Last June, in a gathering of 25,000 Iranians in London, Mrs. Rajavi called for a united international front against fundamentalism.

Mr. Rajavi said that the time has come for the expulsion of the representatives of Khomeini's illegitimate regime from the United Nations and other international forums and the handing over of Iran's seats to the Iranian Resistance.
