NCR condemns German deputy Foreign Minister's visit to Iran

The National Council of Resistance condemns the visit to Iran by Mr. Peter Hartman, the German deputy Foreign Minister, and his meetings with the officials of the mullahs' religious, terrorist dictatorship. Shaking the hands of the criminal leaders of this regime runs counter to the highest interests of the Iranian people.

The rising number of public executions and punishments and suppression of popular protests, the murder of a Christian priest, and the assassination in Pakistan of a dissident Iranian refugee- all in the past few weeks alone- and the regime's persistence on export of terrorism and fundamentalism attest to the flagrant continuation of human rights violations in Iran.

This is the product of the European Community, including Germany's defeated policy of critical dialogue with the mullahs' regime and their sacrifice of exalted principles of humanity for the sake of petty economic interests. The policy of critical dialogue is even widely opposed by the public opinion, parliamentarians and political circles in Germany.

Seven years after Khomeini's death and some 8 years after the criminal fatwa for Rushdie's murder, all indications prove that the appeasement of this regime is counterproductive, only encouraging it for further export of terrorism and escalation of domestic suppression.
