Meeting of all commanders of security forces: A measure to step up repression

According to a report by Tehran Radio, the commanders and deputy commanders of the regional security forces began a nationwide meeting in Tehran to review ways of improving enforcement of security and public order.

The meeting comes in the wake of anti-government demonstrations last month in Kermanshah and the extensive protests and publicity campaigns by the Resistance's supporters throughout the country in the months of June, September and October. It reflects the regime's alarm at growing public disenchantment.

The mullahs' regime staged several urban military maneuvers in recent months to create a state of fear and repression among the populace. Similarly, the number of publicly announced executions by the mullahs' regime in 1996 increased at least 300% compared to the previous year.
