Mullahs' Judiciary falsely claims arrest of suspects in Tehran killings

A spokesman for the clerical regime's Judiciary falsely claimed last night that "a number of suspects had been arrested for involvement in recent assassinations and murders." Previously, Khatami's Interior Minister Abdolvahed Moussavi Lari had declared that several suspects in the murder of Darioush Forouhar and his wife were arrested. (State television, November 27, 1998)

These false claims are solely aimed at concealing the true identity of the perpetrators and masterminds of the recent murders. It is common knowledge that these criminals are working at the highest levels in the Guards Corps, Intelligence Ministry and other suppressive organs. Khamenei, Khatami and the regime's Judiciary officials know them well. If the Judiciary or the Interior Ministry have truly arrested any suspects, why do they not provide any details?

The spokesman for the Judiciary added: "This ominous scheme is not limited to the murders of a few writers. In addition to the assassination of [Assadollah] Lajevardi, a number of Bassij members and those loyal to the state and the Islamic Revolution have been murdered in this period by unknown individuals." To date, the clerical regime had not made any mention of the assassination of "Bassij members and those loyal to the state." As for Lajevardi's case, the regime had formally announced several times that it had already arrested those who had brought the Butcher of Evin to justice.

By churning out these lies and contradictory remarks, the mullahs' anti-human regime is trying to conceal its direct role in the recent murders and evade the domestic and international repercussions of these heinous crimes.

The Iranian Resistance urges international human rights organizations to condemn the recent wave of assassinations in Iran and dispatch an international fact-finding mission to investigate these murders. The UN Security Council must immediately take up the mullahs' abysmal record of terrorism and human rights.
