Maryam Rajavi: Khatami's tirade against Mojahedin and Iranian Resistance reflects his fears of regime's "main enemy"
- Sole yardstick of caring for the people is to rise up and overthrow religious dictatorship and establish democratic rule based on free elections

In a message to the people of Iran, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, said Khatami's lengthy tirade against the Mojahedin was an admission to the standing of the Iranian Resistance and a consequence of his fear of the growing Resistance, which he describes as "principal" and "big enemy."

Mrs. Rajavi said: Khatami began his remarks by praising the vali-e faqih and concluded it with prayers for "the Great Leader of the Islamic Revolution." He threw insults at the Mojahedin in every sentence, and fabricated many lies against the Iranian Resistance. He warned against the danger of the Iranian Resistance's victory and seizing power, and at the same time claimed the clerical reigme was in the "era of stability."

The Iranian Resistance's President elect said: Khatami cited "two great enemies" for the regime: the Mojahedin and the "Zionists." He hesitated to describe the Mojahedin and the Iranian Resistance alone as the regime's "big enemy." Like the case of political murders, he tried to bring in the issue of "foreign hands."

Referring to Khatami's remarks on the role of the Mojahein, before and after the overthrow of the Shah, Mrs. Rajavi said: Khatami rejects the pioneering role of the Mojahedin and Iranian Resistance in the Iranian people's struggle against two dictatorships of the Shah and Khomeini, while at the same time describes Khomeini as "Imam", Khaemeni as the "superior will" and openly adheres to the theory of velayat-e faqih according to which people are all "minors" and Vali is their "guardian." In reality, however, the only true criterion for judging one's loyalty to people is the overthrow of the mullahs' bloody rule and religious distorship (i.e. velayat-e faqih) and rising up to establish the unconditional rule of the people through free elections, as outlined in the program of the National Council of Resistance and the transitional government.

Two years after Khatami took office, the hollow nature of his oratories about freedom, rule of law, civil society, etc. has been divulged, while the Iranian Resistance's positions on the clerical regime's lack of potential for reform has become evident for every one, Mrs. Rajavi said. This is why Khatami hangs on to the Ministry of Intelligence, describing this hated ministry of espionage and murder, as the "only point of reliance for the state," "the basis for the state's existence," and "the most fundamental pillar of the state."

Addressing Khatami, Mrs. Rajavi reiterated that by relying on the National Liberation Army, the Iranian people, and especially women, will put an end to the evil rule of the mullahs.
