Excerpts from message by
Iranian Resistance's President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi

My dear fellow Iranians,

I salute you proud and venerable Iranians who stand up to tell the world: Iran is not Khomeini, Khamenei, Rafsanjani, Khatami and their cohorts. Iran is not hostage-taking, terrorism, torture and religious demagoguery. Iran has its great history, rich heritage and distinct culture. Let our country be known by the courageous resistance of her people to the mullahs' dictatorship.

These days you have been witnessing another manifestation of our people's commitment to the ideal of freedom and democratic government in the form of demonstrations and protests by our nation's students against religious dictatorship. Protests that began with the students' outcry against the savage attack on their hostels by the mullahs' repressive forces, but soon spread to Tabriz, Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashad and other major cities and culminated in a courageous uprising that clearly showed the student movement's fury at the clerical regime in its entirety.

From the ranks of our Resistance, 120,000 have sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom. We believe that the success of our movement is assured because it has overcome the two most important shortcomings of the previous democratic movements: a democratic alternative in the form of the National Council of Resistance and a strong military arm in the form of the National Liberation Army. With a competent leadership that has made these achievements possible, the Resistance movement is confident that it is on course to fulfill the historical aspirations of the great national heroes of Iran and establish in this ancient land a government that is democratic, secular, and accountable to the people.

The terrorist rulers of our country may resort to savage acts of terror against us; they may assassinate our human rights activists; they may murder our people with car bombs; they may hit our bases with Scud missiles and weapons of mass destruction; they may torture and rape our political prisoners; they may execute teenagers as young as 13 for the mere possession of a Resistance statement. But they may never break the will of our nation to free itself from the clutches of their medieval rule.

Trend of events in Iran is lending greater validity to the unequivocal position of the National Council of Resistance that the mullahs' dictatorship is incapable of reform and must be overthrown. In its deadly impasse, the clerical regime has clearly exposed its true nature. When Khatami appeared on the state television to vow personally to suppress the students' protests and the popular uprising in Tehran and other major cities, he fired a coup de grace at his entire demagogic, fake show of reform. The whole world is now watching the political demise of Khatami and his rhetoric, for it became clear that what Khatami means by "civil society" is one in which students demanding freedom are shot on campus and people demonstrating for their democratic rights are gunned down. All over the world, including in the United States, observers are attesting to the fact that "the Iranian regime has not changed under Khatami" and that "the clerical regime in Iran is on the verge of disintegration."

My fellow Iranians,
The mullahs are on their last legs. More than ever in the past, the two decades of sacrifice and endeavor by our people and our Resistance movement are coming to bear their final fruits. To achieve the historic goal of the Resistance - the establishment of a free, democratically-elected and accountable government in Iran - I call on every single one of you to offer your support to the Resistance.
