Tom Aspell reports from Iran-Iraq border: The trouble is the Iranian Mojahedin. Men and women who are motivated, armed, and dangerous. They are fewer than 40,000 but their goal is the overthrow of the religious regime in Tehran. They want to replace the mullahs with what they call democratic Islam.

Using equipment captured from Iranian army and Revolutionary Guards, the Mojahedin now have enough armored fire power to cause Tehran more than a little concern.

Last month in the chaos of Iraq's defeat by the United States and its allies in the Gulf War, Tehran sent divisions of Revolutionary Guards across the border to wipe out the Mojahedin. The rebels beat them back, killed a lot.

Now flushed with success, the Mojahedin say they are preparing for the big one: an attack on Tehran itself. They say it will be the final battle.

They were once idealistic students many from comfortable middle class homes. They helped overthrow the Shah just over ten years ago. Today, they are older, tougher, and more determined than ever to take power for themselves.

They are the only army in the region, perhaps in the world, to field women in frontline combat. In recent battles, these women fought hand to hand alongside the men. They showed no hesitation in killing close up.
