Marzieh Joins the Resistance

Marzieh, Iranian diva, leaves Iran, meets with Resistance's President-elect and becomes NCR member

On August 18, 1994, Marzieh, Iran's legendary singer who had recently left Iran to join the Resistance, met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, Iranian Resistance's President-elect, at Auver-sur-Oise, France. In her meeting, she described Mrs. Rajavi as a "guiding l ight" for women and as an "inspiration" to Iranian artists. She said: "I am convinced that one cannot find a woman with your courage and audacity in our contemporary era, or for that matter in all history."

Marzieh, 69, learned music and the art of singing under some of the masters of Iranian music. she performed some 1,000 songs over a span of half a century, and is recognized as Iran's greatest and most distinguished music star. She never submitted to the conditions set by the clerical regime, which banned her from performing for the last 15 years.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi described Marzieh a "great lady " of Iran's music and song, and a "brilliant star" of Iranian art. She added: "Your support, as the leading Iranian artist, for the Resistance is a source of pride for Iran's music stars, demonstrating th at they cannto be forced into aquiescence."

In mid-September, Marzieh met with Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran and attended a NCR special session. Mr. Rajavi announced that the NCR had unanimously approved the request by Marzieh to become a member. He des cribed her as the embodiement of the Iranian people's artistic pride, and declared that she has been appointed as the adviser to Mrs. Rajavi for artistic affarirs. After 15 years of silence, Marzieh performed her first concert in this gathering.
